Truly an artistic and beautiful record, April Maybe May’s self titled debut release is one that will reach out for you but in a gentle way. The majority of the acoustic laden songs will make you want to lay back, relax and listen in pleasure.

Truly an artistic and beautiful record, April Maybe May’s self titled debut release is one that will reach out for you but in a gentle way. The majority of the acoustic laden songs will make you want to lay back, relax and listen in pleasure.

Opener “Back to Me” is a slow, warm and soothing song. Just think about the likes of slower Alanis Morissette songs mixed with that of Brandi Carlile or Suazanne Vega and that is what you’ll get with this song. The vocals are just soothing and beautiful. Even slower moments include the lullaby like “For the Weekend” which has slight elements of a r n b track. The vocal harmonies add a slight haunting feel to it. Livelier and charming moments come in the form of songs such as the soulful “An Open Book” with the delightful strumming pattern and the quiet but infectious bongo patterns in the background. The vocals change to a style that has a more powerful delivery and a more mid paced feel that matches the song perfectly. Songs such as “The Girl Next Door” are the more country like songs in the album mixing male/female vocals together.

“April Maybe May” is a record that touches several emotions. Sometimes it is a beautiful and slow paced one and at others, it is a rather charming and soulful one. You can really hear the emotion coming out through the instruments and the vocals which is the shining point of the album.
