Conrad Vingoe – Simple Secrets
Ever searching for new and interesting music, I am brought to the attention of Conrad Vingoe. This Brighton born singer/songwriter/self-producer certainly has many lights flashing. The music he plays is simple melodic and truely beautiful; mesmerizing and relaxing. It should be your Summer soundtrack.
Opening track ‘Fingers’ introduces the album with guitars and vocals that would fit into any Wez Anderson film. Lyrically understated and sets the tone for A sound that will have you wanting more of such ambience. Track 2, ‘Ghost Behind’, brings in the more somber songwriting that Conrad has in his pocket, but again with a happy undertone embodied in the beautiful guitar, piano and very simple light percussion.
Fuel for Fire catches you with a bouncy double-bass line and in the background you have a keyboard bridging the bass to rhythm. Opening line “waiting for this time to come” shines out in his voice, “waiting for the love to fade, all our distant memories of pain, have gone away. And i’m hoping that this tide, will wash away my lies” Its pretty, Its happy. It brilliant. I would put this down as a track driven with folk funk, and tainted with regret. Possibly the best track of the album.
That’s all I can tease you with on this album; I could go on, but then you would know everything there is to know, wouldn’t you? One thing I would definately add: folk music has been dragged the wrong way in recent years, and Conrad Vingoe embodies the simplistic ideals that have been lost, it seems. With Simple Secrets you are treated to something not just of beauty, but a brief look into the heart and soul of a man.
Albums come and go; singer songwriters are two a penny. Please don’t pigeonhole this man in that category – it would be a crying shame. This is one of those albums that come along in your collection that will bring you into immediate happiness, relaxing your summer away with a nice tipple of your choice.
