When asked about the name of his forthcoming solo album, with a slight lilt of frustration towards the music press he has little love for, the former Suede and The Tears star replied: ‘It’s called that, because that�s my name, you see.’ Keen to emerge from the Anderson/Butler stable, the most prolific since Morrissey/Marr, and establish himself as a solid songsmith in his own write, this set of tracks, loosely penned in 2004, confirm Anderson has partially fulfilled that desire. First came Kasabian, and now we have Birmingham’s The Twang; the most recent case of a band regurgitating outdated northern anecdotes like ‘avin it!’ in order to make themselves more interesting (seen as the tunes struggle to do it on their own). Unfortunately for them, this isn’t lazy journalism. The Twangs official website states, ‘”Singer Phil Etheridge has got the attitude of Liam Gallagher and the charm of Tom Meighan.’ None of it particularly screams originality. Read more

The Sounds - Dying To Say This To You

Sweden is known for one thing, Ikea. Ikea is brilliant, not rubbish. Ikea has loads of cool stuff and its all cheap manufactured tat that looks nice. It is a genuine fact that Swedish band, The Sounds, were made in an Ikea warehouse out of plywood and really cool magic powder. The Sounds are cheap tat, they are also, like Ikea, fantastic.
