The Cribs/ The Thermals @ The Astoria, London
May 29, 2007 by Sarah Soliman · Leave a Comment
The Thermals, a punk 3 piece hailing from Portland, are underground favourites in the States, but they are in no enviable position tonight. Most in the crowd have never heard of them, and seem to view them as just another stopgap before the Main Event. Read more
The Twang - Either Way
May 28, 2007 by Martin Kendrick · Leave a Comment
So it’s finally being released, even though we’ve all heard it a billion and one times already and could sing it backwards in our sleep! Now you have the option to buy the rowdy brummie hooligans new single (still at least there’s b-sides!) Read more
Das Wanderlust - Sunday School

Those marmite pair of wrong poppers are back with three more offerings sure to split opinions quicker than Moses with a bowl of washing up water. But love them or hate them (and quite frankly, you really should love them because their insanely brilliant!) you can’t deny they make music like pretty much no one else and that’s always a good thing! The Holloways @ Electric Ballroom, London
May 28, 2007 by Sarah Soliman · Leave a Comment
There is always something special about a proper hometown gig, one taking place minutes from where the band lives. On Monday night, the crowd at the Electric Ballroom waits impatiently for a rollicking quartet known as The Holloways to take the stage. Read more
Juliette Lewis and the Licks - Four On The Floor
May 28, 2007 by Martin Kendrick · Leave a Comment
So only a matter of months after the release of this somewhat disappointing second album, apparently there must be legions of fans who not only want the album but now want a DVD with it so they can watch Miss Lewis and her licks getting up to all their rock star frivolities. Plus, of course, they can milk even more out of the fact that Dave Grohl played drums on it! Read more
The Pigeon Detectives - Wait For Me
May 28, 2007 by Justin · Leave a Comment
Alex Turner, cheeky chappy of Arctic Monkeys fame, has given us so many things in the last few years; one of the greatest albums of 2006, probably the greatest song of 2007 so far…oh yes, and a hundred and a million talentless indie boy bands given a record contracts just because they sound ‘reet northern like’. Bastard. Read more
Biffy Clyro - Leeds Metropolitan University
May 26, 2007 by Kane Fulton · Leave a Comment
As YCNI:M finish their impressive set Biffy Clyro fans are down the front, rabidly enthusiastic, creating a potent atmosphere of expectation. With new album imminent, major label deal down and a creeping curiosity starting to come from those outside Biffy’s ‘cult’ fan base, 57 explodes into the faces of the uninitiated. Read more
Slow Club - Because We’re Dead
May 25, 2007 by Martin Kendrick · Leave a Comment
Some delightfully eccentric Pavement-esque alt folk from a boy / girl duo from up Nottingham way. Slow Club’s debut single could be a Deep South barn dance anthem, just as easily as an indie club classic. Lyrically bizarre and heart-warmingly humorous, ‘there’s people in the floorboards send a mouse’. Tongue in cheekily dark, declaring, ‘it’s too late because we’re dead’ with big grins on their faces, strumming jolly chords. Read more
Das Wanderlust @ Old Blue Last, London
May 22, 2007 by Martin Kendrick · Leave a Comment
An impromptu set of old songs (some of witch they hadn’t played for 18 months) with no sound check and a drummer who had only practiced with them once (and bloody great he was to!). Surreal and a bit mental for them, totally brilliant for us. Read more
