Maths Class - Emporio Laser/Cushion Glamour

August 29, 2007 by Sel Bulut · Leave a Comment

On their first ever release, Maths Class are pushing out the double a-side Emporio Laser/Cushion Glamour on THREE formats. That’s right, not just the usual “limited edition vinyl that only have 12 copies so that they may be rare and sought over on the offchance we ever get big” but on three formats - 7″, CD and iTunes, and with everyone being able to play CDs and most people having an iTunes account, this makes them rather “gettable” for the average human being. Arctic Monkeys - Your Favourite Worst Nightmare

August 28, 2007 by Amy Lazell · Leave a Comment

It can’t be denied that the Arctic Monkeys had a huge task of their hands. The phenomenal success of their debut album, ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’, put them on the map as a fresh unique new band, but such success was closely followed by the question all their fans wanted answering, ‘Can they keep the originality flowing? The Hot Puppies - King Of England

Computer viruses get a lot of stick. If it’s not a virus that whisks you from youe emails to the latest scientific breakthrough in erectile dysfunction, then it’s alone dragging you to your emails when you’re busy trying to find a cure for impotence. Recently however, I’ve been taken to the websites of some truly great bands. One of these bands is Welsh girl-rock outfit, The Hot Puppies whose limited single King of England is available now. Aqualung - Memory Man

August 27, 2007 by Justin · Leave a Comment

Who are Aqualung? Aqualung is a man going by the name of Matt Hales. Why doesn’t he call himself Matt Hales, that’s a bit pretentious isn’t it? Yes it is, but there’s a very good reason; his music sounds like its been recorded underwater. Read more

Kings Of Leon - On Call

August 26, 2007 by Kane Fulton · Leave a Comment

This, the debut single from Kings Of Leon’s third album ‘Because Of The Times’, won’t inject excitement into many people bar the KoL loyalists. This is a shame, because the first 37 seconds of the song contain one of the most serene and beautifully haunting keyboard intro’s I’ve heard all year. It’s what follows that disappoints. Read more

Jon Redfern - Can’t Take The Heat

August 26, 2007 by Ross Murdoch · Leave a Comment

A veteran of Mercury nominated band Tarras, John Redfern presents his first single from his new album which will be out early next year. Cant Take The Heat gives a very isolated feeling, not only due to the lyrics which hint at lost-love, but also the appearance of a solitary violin, cutting through a uniform, piano driven melody. Reel Big Fish - Monkeys For Nothin’ And The Chimps For Free

August 26, 2007 by James Falkingham · Leave a Comment

If you are even remotely familiar with Reel Big Fish, then you will know to not know what to expect from them. Perhaps the best thing about this album is that the album itself was fairly unexpected. The initial plans were to produce an album of b-sides, reworked songs and rarities. Be grateful that didn’t happen. Read more

Tokyo Police Club @ Night And Day, Manchester

Fucking fantastic, I’ve woken up with one excruciatingly painful deaf ear, again. After a brief meeting with the doctor I’m informed that if I insist on listening to loud repetitive music on a frequent basis I’m sure to go deaf permanently. I’m advised to ‘take it easy’. I don’t. As an alternative to this ridiculous request I cart my spazzy hindrance of an ear to Night and Day where T.P.C are playing. Read more

Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure

August 23, 2007 by Kane Fulton · Leave a Comment

As we sail down the musical estuary of 2007, reading neon bibles and teaching dogs astronomy, Maximo Park are taking us back a few years to when indie music made you, like, get down. ;Our Velocity; is a far more satisfying offering than either Kaiser Chiefs or The Rakes sophomore album lead singles. Taking the best elements from debut album ‘A Certain Trigger’ songs ‘Limassol’ (the fizzy keyboard line) and ‘Apply Some Pressure’ (triumphant, soaring over rooftops middle 8) ‘Our Velocity’ is an aptly titled single, and certainly one of the best 2007 has offered us so far.
