Murder By Death - Red Of Tooth And Claw

March 31, 2008 by Mark Rowden · Leave a Comment

If there was ever a band to soundtrack a hostile night at a Western-American Tavern, it’s Murder By Death. Taking their name from a Truman Capote-featuring film of the same name, the Indiana band are now on their fourth album, and first for Vagrant, Red of Tooth and Claw. Read more

The Shortwave Set: No Social

March 27, 2008 by Luke Slater · Leave a Comment

Produced by the man, the mouse, the legend that is Danger Mouse, No Social is the first offering off The Shortwave Set’s second full length ‘Replica Sun Machine’. Danger Mouse’s touches are certainly not far from the foreground with the bouncy bass driven sound that so characterises his production giving this track bottom-end boom.Initially, it sounds as if No Social is going to be one of those horribly grating songs which contain some Super Mario-esque backing. Tangtype - Flake Out

March 25, 2008 by Andrew Valentine · Leave a Comment

Tangtype are two people from the very worldly Brussels, who happen to make some of the most other worldy music you’re likely to hear. Should you happen to be a fan of such juxtapositions, the fun doesn’t end there. Read more

The Long Blondes - Century

March 24, 2008 by Paul Richards · Leave a Comment

Since my introduction to the maple state some time during 2005, in a tiny club in the centre of Doncaster, It’s been a pleasure to watch them grow. The debut EP, 2005’s ‘At least until we’ve settled in’ set the standard, demonstrating the maple state’s knack for catchy song-writing coupled with their fresh and energetic sound. To say they pulled it off live would be an understatement. Read more

This Et Al @ Brudenell Social Club, Leeds

March 22, 2008 by Kane Fulton · Leave a Comment

After only arriving back yesterday from a week long alcohol fuelled holiday in Spain, one could say that yours truly was in no mood for going to any immediate gigs or consuming any alcohol for at least, well, a day or so. However, upon remembering that Leeds quartet This Et Al were gearing up for a comeback gig at the homely (and indeed local) Brudenell Social Club, the liver was promptly given a kick start and ordered to hang in there for one more night. It somewhat begrudgingly agreed. Read more
