Gallery 47 - [breakfast at the clinic]

October 31, 2008 by Helen Newbery · Leave a Comment

I’m intrigued when a hand-sewn, initially rather anonymous-looking CD-shaped package arrives in the post. Closer inspection reveals it to be EP [breakfast at the clinic] by Gallery 47, the recording moniker of one Jack Peachey from Nottingham: “I really hope it didn’t get lost because I’ve hand sewn these ones and they took me ages, especially because I don’t really know how to sew and I don’t own a thimble.” My curiosity duly aroused, I was keen to find out whether this admirable attention to detail was reflected in the music. Another release from the God Is In The TV Single clubs, and the quality shows no sign of abating as former Luxembourg front man David Shah puts forward a warming combination of personable vocals and softly rising guitars that are steadily pushed and prodded forward by a scattering of electronic beeps and squiggles. October 25, 2008 by David Macnamara · Leave a Comment

Set in the shadow of the unmistakable Battersea Power Station, on the south bank of the Thames, Freeze Festival offers a somewhat odd marriage between winter ski sports and music. The first night of the festival is an indie-pop affair with The Enemy headlining the main tent, in what can only be described as post-industrial wasteland. Read more

But as far as millennial acoustic/folk pop’s concerned, the whole thing leaves me a bit cold. Read more

October 22, 2008 by Kane Fulton · Leave a Comment

Radiohead have released more details about the sales of last album ‘In Rainbows’, and while they are still rather vague in parts, most media seem to think the stats, revealed at Icelandic music business conference You Are In Control, prove the whole venture was a jolly big success, and who am I to say otherwise?
