Interview: Shut Yout Eyes And You’ll Burst Into Flames
December 8, 2007 by Cal Richardson
fter a short two week break of new and exhilarating content, we’re back to bring you an interview with the long-named and definitely rocking Leeds outfit Shut Your Eyes and You’ll Burst Into Flames.
CR: So, how did you all meet?
Sean: Nothing too out of the ordinary here, we all pretty much met at university, like a lot of bands do.
CR: What was it that made you want to start a band and make the music that you make?
Sean: Generally it was just for fun, string a few gigs together and have some laughs with mates etc, then we slowly discovered that the noise we were creating was actually quite good and other people we’re enjoying it just as much as us.
CR: You’ve recently ended touring with Hadouken! What do you think of them and their music?
Sean: Hadouken! keep music to its basic instinct, which is fun, the way they have meshed dance synths and hip hop vocals should be an interest to any modern music fan, they get people out of their comfort zone, which can only be a good thing!
CR: On the topic of touring, what’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
Sean: We’ve had plenty of great shows that stand out, out of the smaller one’s the Nasty Fest at the Faversham we did was awesome, a real kind of party atmosphere which we revel in. On a bigger scale playing to a full Manchester academy 1 on the H! tour just showed us hopefully how far we can take this!
CR: Didnt see this one coming, I bet. What’s the worst gig you’ve played?
Sean: The worst ones, for obvious reason are the ones you try to forgot the quickest. When we were started out we played a certain venue in Leeds to basically no one, equipment gave way, and then we had a load of stuff nicked….worst shows are there for a reason though…Learning curve eh?
CR: Forward Russia have announced a ‘I Love West Yorkshire’ gig at the Brudenell in December, you’re playing too… Are you excited about playing a nice intimate gig with them?
Sean: Aye, it’ll be good to play with them as we haven’t played any form of show with them for what seems like an eternity, it’s always good to play with them as not only are they a stunning band, they are also close friends and associates.
CR: Any news on a album? Or perhaps a new single?
Sean: Without giving too much away we’re nearly done writing the album and onto the demoing stage of proceedings, also there is stuff going on behind the scenes, hopefully meaning a new single won’t be too far off, should be able to hear the fruits around spring time..
