Remember that beautiful blonde who sat next to you in the office and made you feel like a prince among paupers, the one you planned on spending the rest of your life with? Now remember how you felt the day she pissed off to travel the world. No farewell. Adiós. I will never forget you. Of course you do, only every God-awful day! Well, that is how the average Mclusky fan felt upon hearing of their split.

Future of the Left have a lot to live up to and from the off, as the band spits and grinds out of the speakers refusing to let you settle, it’s clear that Falkous hasn’t lost any of the anger and spiteful wit that was the driving force behind his former band. ‘Curses’ sounds as accomplished as anything you will hear all year. ‘Plague of ounces’ and the brilliantly spiky ‘Manchasm’ are deceptively poppy sing-alongs whilst ‘Small Bones small bodies’ and ‘My gymnastic past’ already sound like underground anthems in the waiting.

Although there are some weak moments (mainly ‘Fuck the Countryside Alliance’) by the time you’ve reached the final, devastating chords of the album’s finest track, ‘Adeadenemyalwayssmellsgood’, they’re truly long forgotten. Better still you get the feeling the band’s best is yet to come. So, for those of you still pining after that beautiful blonde, have you seen the new girl who’s taking her place? She’s a real stunner!
