Laura Marling has revealed the first video to be taken from her forthcoming album ‘I Speak Because I Can’, released on March 22nd. ‘Devil’s Spoke’ is the first single to be taken from her second LP and will be released on March 15th.

The brand new video for the next single – and the first track on the album – ‘Devil’s Spoke’ is now online. The video was shot by Pulse Films during Laura’s tour of India in December last year.

I Speak because I can is Laura Marlings coming of age album, its 10 songs imbued with a new richness, ripeness and sophistication. It is also an album marked by its quintessential Englishness. For all its American instrumentation, its shades of Crosby Stills and Nash, Joni Mitchel, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, its American producer, these songs are no pale American interpretation; rather they are tales deeply rooted in England.
Marling chose Ethan Johns to produce as she credits many of his earlier records (among them Ray LaMontagne, Kings of Leon, Emmylou Harris, Sarabeth Tucek) with kindling her interest in music, had long admired his way of working, his use of reels, his quiet, traditional methods of production. He gave her the space to find her own identity; the record reveals in a new maturity, and at points Marling’s voice sounds a little harder, a little world-wearied.

The UK pre-order for ‘I Speak Because I Can’ has now begun. As well as the standard 10 track edition, a special edition – which includes a 45 minute behind the scenes documentary, incorporating footage from the ‘Laura Marling & Friends’ show at the Royal Festival Hall in London last summer, and will grant you download access to 5 LM produced tracks from some of the artists who took part (Incl. Johnny Flynn, Alessi’s Ark and Pete Roe) via LM.com, plus a 16 page lyrics booklet – will also be available.
