  • If you are to believe their own bio, Starship Amazing is “the soundtrack to the life you wish you had”. Who are we to argue?starshipa

Consisting of Derek Alexander and Calvin Hansen, Starship Amazing has yet to celebrate their second anniversary as a band, but they have already released two full-length albums and one EP and still manage to have three – yes, three – albums in the making as we speak. Lazy, they most certainly are not.

So why should you care about Starship Amazing? Because they love you, and they love their music. This becomes evident in every facet of their work; from the quirky song titles such as “We Piss In The Eye Of Fear; Urine Big Trouble” and “Judging By The Size Of This Crater, Somebody Brought The Ruckus” to their affectionately composed songs themselves. You could label them electronica, electro-pop or chiptune but it seems neither of those will fully do justice to their sound. Neither would it seem entirely fair to just compare them to similar bands like Crystal Castles or Ratatat, because they manage to make something which is personal and unique while still sounding vaguely familiar. Despite it being almost entirely instrumental, there is no lack of emotion in many of these songs. It’s clear that despite their already extensive back catalogue, they don’t rush their art.

If you’re currently thinking to yourself “Well, these fellows sound jolly exciting. I ponder where I could sample some of their work?” and me, being psychic and all, will tell you that you need not do more than point your clicker to the hyperlink a few pixels below this text and there you’ll be able to download all of the band’s currently releases for free. Yes, that’s zero pounds from your wallet. Should you wish to support them and receive perfectly crisp quality versions of them you can buy them at their store, where you will also find their upcoming albums. If there was ever music worth of your hard-earned dough, it’s Starship Amazing.
