Andy Zipf - MySpace Tracks

February 28, 2007 by Martin Kendrick

It all started out in the mid winter of 2005, but didn’t last long. As, like with every band, there was fallouts. Things were looking unsure for them when the drummer left. Later, they were to become much more consistent, and came back - on form!

Over the times, the band have had trouble with drummers. Now with the recent strike of luck, the band seemed to have found a perfect drummer, very suited to their unique style.

The band, who claim to be from York, are from rather opposite places. Dom hails from Leeds. Anthony - Bradford. Dave - Birmingham. And Jason is the only band member to actually spout from the capital of Yorkshire.

The demo was recorded late last year at Cube Studios in York and mastered by “The Great Johnny Wood”, as spoken by the band.

The demo consists of four songs:-
• She’s Falling Through Walls Again
• Hitting Brick Walls
• Love On The Run
• Sylvie She Said

Lyrical content plays a massive part in The Erratics songs. In “She’s Falling Through Walls Again”, the song describes “the thought process following the break down of a relationship. Anger, self blame, hatred of all those involved etc and possibly redemption…” My Favourite line in the song is, “Christ! Get laid” not only is it quite amusing, but it fits perfectly with the rest of the song. The lyrics are a sheer talent in this band, and I would consider saying that it is the strongest part of the band.

The guitar is consistent and simple, followed by a vaguely technical lead guitar. The vocals are sung by Dom and Anthony. From this we can quite simply tell there is no one in this band that aren’t musically talented. It’s unusual for a band to have not only good guitarists and drummers, but also a very confident frontman, with, in my opinion, a very unique and amazing voice.

In 2006 they played their first show at Fibbers, York (which is Radio 1 DJ, Zane Lowe’s favourite venue). The announcement of a first show was met with much enthusiasm.

Words from the band, “Our influences are wide and varied as are our interests, although music, drinking and football are the mainstays”. This band remind my of a quieter, less energetic Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but don’t let that put you off. There is also a hint of other big bands like The Music, Feeder and a slight hint of Explosions In The Sky.

I hope to God this band get somewhere within the next year, and that slight mishaps, such as drummers leaving, won’t effect the strong formation of the band.

They will be sure to hit a venue near you very soon. Keep a look out.
