The Mentalists – Don’t Know What To Do (With You)

With all of Kate Jackson and Karen O’s appeal, dulcet tones and gusto and the ‘now’ ness of New Young Pony Club (hopefully without the attitude of Alan Partridge – Ed) – London ladies of style and attitude The Mentalists are a ready made package for shipment to success.

Part post punk, part new rave and high heels that would gladly stamp on your balls if you got in their way! Front woman Kim E Leon howls like a banshee with aggression and urgency as her amazon army of a band thunder along behind her – a pack of lasses you do not want to mess with. The Fall, The Clash, No Doubt, The Slits, The Specials, The Noisettes, Siouxsie Sioux and Goldfrapp all have elements of influence on the sound and the mission of The Mentalists.
‘Want It All’ is a ska punk, take no prisoners yell “don’t need no man to please me..worked so damn hard to please me”. Big guitars and self-governing spirit.

Single ‘Don’t Know What To Do’ is a pogoing tribal bawl and crowd energising smash in waiting. Great riff, complete with ‘London Calling’ “ow ow ow’s” and marching rhythm from the thumping bass line and kick drum.

‘Plastic People’ is a call to arms air puncher that grabs you by the top of the ear and yanks you along.

If there’s an uprising a’brewing, you can bet your bottom dollar these girls will be first in line to lead it. Surely a band teetering on the edge of something huge! Lock up your men, here come The Mentalists and no one is safe!
