Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80’s
November 23, 2007 by Kane Fulton
Acceptable In The 80’s’ lacks the sense of urgency found in dance peers Bodyrox and Fedde Le grand, instead sounding like LCD Soundsystem fronted by Jake Shears with the transvestites from ‘The Ones’ watching from the sidelines. It’s sickly, sugar coated pop. Infectious for the first few listens, too much over indulgence leaves you wishing you had listened to something a bit less rich in bouncing synth lines and falsettos. It’s been over played to death on Radio 1, and the natural cynic inside me doubts that Mr Harris was ever short on industry pals, being mates with that, you know, diminutive Australian pop femme. Kylie something. He even had an interview in the NME. At the end of the day he needs to follow this up with something a bit meatier around the edges, because ‘Acceptable’ will be forgotten about in a month.
