Late Of The Pier - The Bears Are Coming
March 2, 2008 by Malcolm Mathieson
Late Of The Pier are clearly not aware of the philosophy ‘Less is More’ - if they have, they need to brush up on their minimalism. ‘The Bears Are Coming’ is like one of those drunken experiments at a party that seem like a good idea at the time when the remnants of all the bottles of Whiskey/Rum/Wine are combined into one super-concoction with the results usually resulting in frantic shouts of ‘get a bucket!”Having said that, somewhere in amongst the synth squelches and ‘Flight of the Conchords-esque’ battle rap delivery is a great song. Working with Erol Alkan has really brought out the best in the Castle Donington 4-piece and come the release of their debut album they will deservedly inherit the title of the thinking man’s Klaxons. Just keep the Ritalin handy.
