The Inspector Cluzo - EP
September 11, 2008 by Stacy Reeve
Opening track ‘Mad’ gives a clear definition of what The Inspector Cluzo entails: a mish mash of genres from a French duo who put the ooh la la into a fusion of rock and funk - creating a sound that is truly in a league of its own. This blend of toe tapping funk and guitar laden fury leave you intrigued to the inspiration behind this band whose name sounds like a character in the popular board game Cluedo.
Mr Mustard in the library with the pistol, anyone? Mystery of how to define this band is furthered by listening to the single release ‘Fuck the Bass Player’, which combines rap, high pitched voices (much likened to The Bee Gees in Stayin’ Alive) and a rather fun lovin’ sound that leaves you perplexed to how to perceive this band. However, any perceptions may be subject to change when faced with ‘Two Days’, which sounds like epic Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Testify’ as a truly RATM guitar takes hold; leaving you with no option but to jump up and down like a lunatic, leaving your dignity (and sanity) far, far behind you.
Finally, track ‘Do You Make It Right’ is the contender for being the smooth and sultry track and, like many funk legends, and its catchy chorus is the ultimate compliment for the rest of the tracks. With its saxophone sounds it brings another successful artist into the picture: Curtis Mayfield, showing exactly how diverse The Inspector Cluzo’s influences really are. On the 13th November they will release their EP and an album will follow in January. If you want to catch the band live they will be playing at the Barfly in Camden on the 27th November.
