Oasis - The Shock Of The Lightning

The propsect of a new single release by Oasis is always greeted by a huge euphoria, by both their fans and the press. However, some may argue that in recent years the hype surrounding a new Oasis track has been down to their huge success in the 1990’s and not the quality of their recent work.

After finally reaching a ‘mature stage’ with their last album back in 2005, ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ saw a return to form for one of Britain’s greatest bands ever and consequently roused a positive response. Therefore, the single from their next album, ‘Dig Out Your Soul’, would have to be one that built on the foundations of the ‘new Oasis’.

Latest single, entitled ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ builds on this by Oasis going back to a more, well, Oasis approach to songwriting. Noel claims to have penned the song in around 20 minutes whilst at the studio, something he hadn’t done for well over 10 years. It’s not only the writing methods that link this song with the Oasis of old either. The heavier sound of the song bring a much more uplifting vibe to a largely mellow Oasis of recent time. Pounding drum solo’s, plenty of guitars and top class vocals from Liam, bring Oasis back to the ‘glory’ days of the mid 1990’s. Essences of their earlier almost punk rock songs, such as ‘Bring It On Down’, can be heard.

Oasis’ best single in a decade, truly sees the return of everyones one time favourite band. Oasis mark two have finally found their feet with their best single to date.
