Gallery 47 - Logic Starfighter 3
July 17, 2008 by Justin
Listening to new music with a nice cup of tea is one of the greatest things in the world, especially when it’s free tea; in fact I might even go as far as saying that every new record release should come with a free tea bag. One artist that seems to understand this more than any other is solo artist, Gallery 47.
The new single Logic 3 Starfighter is, in his own words “a retaliation to my debut EP [which was] decidedly middle-of-the-road in my opinion”; this is of course a dangerous mindset, as anyone who has heard Coldplay’s latest effort will know. However, I am happy to report that Logic 3 Starfighter, despite occasionally flirting with the overly ridiculous, is an interesting and exciting listen that is reminiscent of Incubus; an impressive feat for one man.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Muse, Radiohead, and indeed any artist that seeks to squeeze five songs into one, Gallery 47 achieves the rare feat of making a modular song memorable. The recurring semi-chorus pleads with us, “So won’t you please release her/From herself”, linking together an otherwise disjointed song perfectly. However, whereas surprise and intrigue fuel the music itself, decidedly less emphasis seems to have been placed on the importance of lyrics which are plagued with cliché; “I’ve had enough with being the way you are”.
Interestingly, b-side Petticoat reverses this trend to an extent; taking a fairly simple acoustic melody and combining it with comparatively meaningful lyrics; “I will sin for the only thing worth sinning for”. Relegating Petticoat to b-side is an uncomfortable thought as it is at least as good as the title track. If you do intend to give Gallery 47 a listen which I strongly suggest should be accompanied with a cup of tea, then both tracks should be listened to, and then listened to again.

Hmm…This is actually quite a good piece to say the lyrics would normally put me off, however its obvious a few lines have a Thom Yorke influence as they don’t fit the others.
On another note, googling this track brings up this review first. XD
It’s a song named after a PC flight joystick :/
